2014-2015 School Year Theme

This year’s theme is based on Ephesians 6:10-20. As God’s children we are to take on the whole armor of God.

  1. We are to take the whole armour of God (v. 10 &13). This makes us able, because this armour is not man-made. It is designed and constructed by God.
  2. God’s armour is held together by truth (v. 14). Without the Truth we have nothing to defeat the devil.
  3. We are to put on the Breastplate of Righteousness (v. 14).   A breastplate was used to protect the vital organs of the body. Likewise spiritually, the Breastplate of Righteousness protects the integrity of life, righteous character, holiness, purity of life and sincerity of piety.
  4. We are to have our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace (v. 15). Roman soldiers use to have nails in their shoes to help them to hold their ground. The stability or leverage of the Gospel helps us to be firm in our fight. Gospel of peace is termed because it establishes peace between God and man.
  5. We are to take the shield of faith (v. 16). Satan’s darts can be quenched. We have all the equipment to remain victorious.
  6. We are expected to stand (v. 13).
  7. The Shield of Faith is vital for the battle (v. 16). It is large enough to protect the entire body. It protects from arrows shot from a great distance. This shield would also carry a soldier home when his life was taken in battle. Our faith will one day carry us home.
  8. We are to take the Helmet of Salvation and it cannot be omitted (v. 17). On the crest and other parts of the helmet were a great variety of emblematical figures. These figures were the sign under which the warrior fought. Our salvation is from Our Commander, Jesus Christ. The helmet battles against doubt and discouragement.
  9. We must love, learn and live the Word of God (v. 17). The Sword of the Spirit is mentioned only once in the Bible and it is here in this passage.   This is our weapon of offence and defense against the spiritual battle in which we face. We can have victory over our adversary by the Word of God. Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
  10. We can be dedicated to pray or be defeated by the devil (v. 18). Prayer really does change everything!
